I was born in Cebu City, Philippines but my family moved to the United States when I was one year old. I grew up in Maryland and Wisconsin. I studied Spanish at the University of Wisconsin and spent a year studying in Spain to become fluent in the language. I stayed at the University of Wisconsin for medical school.

After serving an internship in general surgery at Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA, I decided to pursue a career in otolaryngology. I completed a clinical fellowship in otolaryngology at the Boston University Medical Center, then spent a year researching neural transplants to restore hearing at the prestigious Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden. My research has been published in peer-reviewed journals and has been presented at the Nobel Forum. I completed my residency at Charles Drew University in Los Angeles, CA where I scored in the 99th percentile in an annual examination of all the otolaryngology residents nation-wide.

I am a clinical assistant professor of medicine in the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine Department of Family Medicine. In 2019, I served as the president of the Philippine Medical Association of Hawaii.

In 2005, I moved with my wife to Hawaii to begin practice and they have a son. I enjoy the outdoors- surfing, hiking, and camping and have run ten marathons. I also enjoy cooking and travel.
